We will be broadcasting some literature and theory that inspired the concept behind Reconsider Flesh (feel free to visit this room before you join the zoom!). Tune in to hear thoughts on our relationship with bodies, and the plurality they carry with them.
Zoom code will be in the Skin Garden Lobby (on New Art City) and emailed to you.
We are streaming readings of:
📄 Gordon Hall’s “Why I Don’t Talk about ‘The Body” a polemic positioned against the language used to discus bodies in the english-speaking art world. Gordon Hall is a sculptor, performance-maker, and writer based in New York.
📄 Gilles Deleuze's “How do you make yourself a body without organs?” An essay simultaneously distinguishing and using both physical and intangible parts of our bodies. Deleuze was a French writer and antirationalist philosopher.
📄 Bob Flanagan's “Why”, a beautifully written poem about body, choice, and desire. Bob Flanagan was a performance artist and poet whose writing and bizarre, sadomasochistic performances centered on his lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis (quote borrowed from NYT)
This is a fundraiser: We’re raising funds for Skin Garden's featured artists. Output Field is a 501(c)3 non-profit calling for the redistribution of clout. Donate to support our mission and nourish the underground!
